Salam alaykum beloved father (pbuy)

I have been thinking a lot about the events surrounding the birth of Jesus (pbuh) and one of the more mysterious aspects of the story are the "wise men from the East" who came to visit Jesus (pbuh) because they saw his star and followed it to Bethlehem. They are only mentioned once in the gospel of Matthew and very little information is given.

I wanted to ask - how did they know this was "his star" and why was he a significant figure to them? Who were they and where did they come from originally?
